How to test your greeting after uploading
Call your business number from a different phone, such as your cell, and listen all the way through. Check that the right greeting plays, every word is clear, the volume is steady, and each menu key goes where it should. Then call again outside business hours to check your after-hours greeting.
Updated September 28, 2026What should I check on a test call?
- Call from a phone that isn't on your system, like your cell. A call from inside your office system can skip the greeting.
- Listen to the whole greeting. Check your business name, hours, phone numbers and website.
- Check the sound. It should be clear and steady, with no clipping, echo or long silence at the start.
- Press every menu key. Each one should reach the right person, team or message.
- Stay on the line without pressing anything, to hear what happens when a caller doesn't choose.
- Call again outside business hours to hear your after-hours greeting.
What if something sounds wrong?
- The wrong greeting plays: check which greeting your phone system uses for business hours, after hours and holidays.
- It sounds muffled or distorted: upload the other file in your download (WAV or MP3), and check the file format guide.
- A word or name sounds wrong: fix the pronunciation with a re-render.
- The old greeting still plays: some systems take a few minutes to update. Wait, then call again.
Can I hear it the way callers will before I buy?
Yes. Turn on Hear it on a phone line under your preview to hear how it sounds over a phone call. For phone menus, the caller simulator lets you press each key and hear where it goes.
